Munich/Berlin, 20 February – Leading European distributor Global Screen, a TELEPOOL brand, has sold premium spy drama series Davos 1917 to North America and to an additional free to air broadcaster in Europe, it was announced today by Brianne Bonney, Head of TV Sales.

Global Series Network picked up the series for its innovative SVOD feed Walter Presents in North America. National broadcaster RTP in Portugal has also acquired the series, as well as Filmin VOD services for Spain and Portugal.

These deals are in addition to recently announced sales to Mediaset – Italy, MTV A– Hungary and ORF - Austria.  The acclaimed 6 x 45’ thriller launched in December on SRF Switzerland and ARD Germany.

Inspired by real events that occurred in the early days of the European Secret Services, Davos 1917 boasts a stellar cast headed by Dominique Devenport (Sisi), David Kross (The Reader), Jeanette Hain (Never Look Away), Max Herbrechter (Rauhnächte), Sunnyi Melles (Triangle of Sadness) and Stipe Erceg (Vienna Blood).

1917 – the First World War is ravaging Europe. By contrast, Switzerland seems like an oasis of peace.  But behind the scenes of neutral Switzerland, the secret agents of the world powers are lurking in Davos, where a young woman searches for self-determination and does everything she can to win back her daughter taken away from her at birth.

Created in German and Swiss-German with English subtitles and dubbed in French and Italian, Davos 1917 is produced by Contrast Film (Ivan Madeo, Stefan Eichberger, Urs Frey), Letterbox Filmproduktion (Lisa Arndt, Andreas Knoblauch), Amalia Film, SRF and ARD Degeto. Directed by Jan-Eric Mack, Anca Miruna Lăzărescu, Christian Theede. Creator and Headwriter: Adrian Illien, Co-Writer: Thomas Hess, Julia Penner, Michael Sauter. DOP: Tobias Dengler, Timon Schäppi.

Bonney comments: “We are very proud to be representing Davos 1917 and it is a real pleasure to announce a significant North American sale at this early stage.  It is a lavishly produced and emotionally-charged series set against the stunning backdrop of the Alps.  With standout performances by exceptional actors, this is a thriller that dramatically reveals behind-the-scenes global events that dictated the end of WWI.”

The historical espionage series Davos 1917 shines the spotlight on this spa town: inspired by true events, the series tells the fictional story of an extraordinary woman in the midst of a patriarchal world who develops into an important player in the espionage network. At the center of the story is the Swiss nurse Johanna Gabathuler (Devenport). After her Red Cross mission on the Western Front, she returns pregnant to her hometown of Davos, where her family runs the "Cronwald" sanatorium. Along with patients from different social classes, they also accommodate wealthy and influential guests from all over Europe. Johanna unexpectedly gets caught between the fronts of the spies operating in Davos, who are secretly observing the powerful decision-makers. In order to win back her illegitimate daughter, she gets involved in a dangerous game with the German Secret Service – and suddenly becomes the decisive tip of the scales.
