May 6th, 2020

Global Screen a brand of Telepool has clinched major deals for the drama VEINS OF THE WORLD, the fiction feature film debut of the director-screenwriter Byambasuren Davaa ("The Cave of the Yellow Dog", "The Two Horses of Genghis Khan"). She had previously been nominated for an Oscar for Best Documentary in 2005 for "The Story of the Weeping Camel" which was sold to over 60 territories.

The film had a well-established production partner in BASIS BERLIN FILMPRODUKTION whose "Of Fathers and Sons" had been nominated for the Best Documentary Oscar in 2019.

The drama premiered at this year's Berlin International Film Festival and has been picked up by Les Films du Preau for France, Surtsey Films for Spain, Angel Films for Scandinavia and by Filmcoopi for Switzerland. Further deals are currently in negotiation.

In VEINS OF THE WORLD, the director tells a moving and visually stunning story of a family across the generations that is closely related to the current situation of the nomads and their dwindling habitats in Mongolia.

VEINS OF THE WORLD will be released in Germany by Pandora Film later in 2020.

Byambasuren Davaa tells the story of the 11-year old boy Amra, who lives a traditional nomad life with his mother Zaya, father Erdene and little sister Altaa in the middle of the Mongolian steppe. While Zaya takes care of the flock, Erdene works as a mechanic and sells Zaya's homemade cheese at the local market. Their peaceful routine is threatened by the encroachment of international mining companies, digging for gold and devastating the natural habitat. Erdene is the leader of the last nomads opposing them. Then he dies in a tragic car accident, and Amra’s mother wants to give up the nomad life and trade the steppe for the city. But Amra refuses and tries to carry on his father's David vs. Goliath fight with his cleverness and the tools of an 11-year-old boy.

VEINS OF THE WORLD will be also screened at the Marché du film Online.
