When the zoo closes its gates to visitors, the day is by no means over for the animals. In Munich, Sabi, the young African elephant, then sets off on his regular outing through the zoo with his keeper: the visitors' paths now become his trail and surprising encounters provide a welcome change to everyday life. Keepers and vets also have work to do: Caligula, the sapajou, has a digestive complaint and needs medical care; preparations must be made to crown the tusks of Max, the elephant bull... When we roam with Sabi through Munich's Hellabrunn Zoo after closing time, the viewer is taken on a comprehensive tour of this zoo which is regarded as one of the most beautiful in Germany.
