The Wishing Table (By The Brothers Grimm)

No one takes poor little Max seriously. Even the gluttonous goat makes fun of him. Max wants to prove his worth to his father and lovely Lotte. So he packs his knapsack and heads out into the world like his older brothers Emil and Joeckel did.

But his way through the world is hard: Robbers ambush him in the woods. Even the poor tailor who took Max on as an apprentice on his wife's urging is unhappy with him: Max is clumsy and his work is a mess. But suddenly, Max's new-fashioned overalls become all the rage, making the tailor and his wife very wealthy. Max cheerily sets off for home, along with the Club-in-a-Bag his master gave him in parting, eager to see Lotte again. At an inn on the way, Max meets his brothers, who are also returning from their journeyman years. But the greedy innkeepers have stolen their masters´ parting gifts, The Wishing Table and the Golden Donkey. Max will have to help them get them back. But time is running out, for Lotte has already been betrothed to another.
