The Wild Horses Of The Namib-Desert (151/268)

No-one knows how they came here, no-one knows how they managed to survive: In the south of Namibia, in the stony wasteland of the Namib Desert, a herd of horses has survived for some 100 years. Scientists are baffled as to their origin, and the most diverse stories are woven around their existence: they swam to shore after a shipwreck, they escaped from the diamond mines, they are military horses from the First World War. This secret will probably never be aired. The horses have learned to survive in heat and drought. Yet in some years of drought every second animal dies of starvation.
