The Stray - An Alley Cat In Paris (64/268)

It is said that cats can never be completely domesticated. And maybe roaming strays are the best proof of this. The author of the film accompanies a ginger tomcat through the traffic chaos of Paris. A stray leads us through the district around Montmartre - and then his trail disappears in the jungle of the metropolis. But a few weeks later he re-appears - in an old animal cemetery, an oasis of peace right in the city. A lively band of cats can be observed in the oldest animal cemetery in Europe: all the strays like the ginger tomcat which have no owners, have found sanctuary here and defend their territory. In the characteristic way of cats they attempt to defend their territory and to make life difficult for newcomers. The people who have buried their departed loved-ones here often have a special love of animals - including those still alive. Without being fed daily the cats would have no alternative but to fight at night over the rats and mice in the grounds of the cemetery.
