The Sacred Animals of Rajasthan (19/35)

In India the faithful worship some animals as saints. According to the teachings and myths of their religion these animals stood at the side of the gods, waged wars for them or suckled their children. A journey through Rajasthan in the north-west of India resembles a journey through a legendary world where one encounters these sacred creatures: the temple monkeys or the sacred cows, the snakes, camels, rats or antelopes, all of whom in ancient legends and scripts were transformed into mythical creatures who saved the world, who threatened it or who are able, quite simply, to predict the long-awaited rain, like the peacock, India's heraldic animal.
