The Mediterranean - Expedition into a World Apart (5 x 45')

It's a vacation paradise and destination for millions of people - and one of the world's most diverse and amazing habitats: The Mediterranean. We think we know all about it, but where it came from, who inhabits it and what traces man left over millennia are still a riddle.

Two teams of explorers - one on land and one at sea - set out to solve the mysteries of the Mediterranean above and below water, to encounter its animal life and seek out its most remote corners. The expeditions take us from Southern France via Italy to Greece (Eps. 1), from the Italian Adriatic to the Straits of Messina (Eps. 2), along the eastern edge of the Mediterranean, from Turkey to Egypt (Eps. 3), across to the Straits of Gibraltar (Eps. 4), ending on the Greek island of Zakynthos.
