The Home of the Vienna Secession, Austria (9/418)

With its striking domes , the home of the Vienna Secession is, today, appreciated as one of the most prominent examples of European architecture on the brink of the Modernism of the twentieth century. The "Association of Graphic Artists of Austria - Secession" decided to build the house when the group, linked with Gustav Klimt, was founded in 1897. Shortly before, they had resigned from the influential Vienna House of Artists in protest against the generally practiced historicism and its regression to past periods. The Secessionists wanted to secede from the traditional in favour of a new artistic consciousness.
