100 000 years ago, Australia was inhabited by giant animals, but also by the little Tasmania devil. Then, 50 000 years ago, the giants suddenly died out. But the Tasmanian devil survived. Today, however, they survive only on the island of Tasmania. Especially the dingos brought in from Indonesia by Australia's aborigines proved too much of a match for them. There were no dingos on Tasmania, however. There the Tasmanian devil hung on, the only marsupial predator. A mysterious disease has been decimating the Tasmanian population, but now hope is in sight on the Australian mainland. The plan is to relocate an isolated population on the island's southern tip to the continent - perhaps the last chance for the devils' survival.
