Tai - a Snow Leopardess in Exile (2/35)

This is the story of Tai, her children and grandchildren. Tai, a snow leopardess is the holder of a world record. She has given birth to 11 cubs - all in the zoo. While in her home in Central Asia her last wild-living relatives may soon be exterminated by poachers, Tai has at least helped to stabilize the population in the zoos. "Nordens Ark" in Sweden is a zoo with a modern concept. Here they keep animals from the Polar and Alpine regions, which are threatened by extinction in the wild. And Tai came here in 1993 from England in order to breed cubs with a young male - a successful venture: for even in the second generation there are now healthy offspring. In Nordens Ark there is a regular influx of young cats to be reared: Taison, Tangra, Mira and all the others. Yet all these maternal blessings mean a lot of work - the animals have been sent throughout the world and help to preserve the snow leopards in other zoos. Mira came to the zoo in Salzburg and Taisan was even sent to Darjeeling in Northern India. And if Taison's descendants are returned from there to the Himalayas, then Tai's dynasty will even help to preserve snow leopards in the wild.
