Snow-Dwellers (70/268)

It is January 23rd 2050 and we are in the Alps at an altitude of about 2,000 metres? 40 years ago in this region, at this time of year, the snow was at least one metre deep. Now, in the year 2050, it is cold but there is no sign of snow. Whether mountain hare or ptarmigan, Alpine salamander or glacier springtail, an increasing number of species are threatened by the lack of snowfall in winter and the disappearance of the glaciers in the mountains and polar regions - particularly those species which in the course of evolution have adapted to the conditions of a cold climate and to a life in snow and ice. Since humankind has been turning the screw of the global climate, the earth's thermostat is increasingly on "warm", and the changes are taking place too rapidly for animals and plants to adjust to them. The film focuses on the cunning survival tricks of the snow-dwellers in the animal kingdom. We observe selected species and try to find out who could be among the winners or losers in global warming. It is a story that has already begun?
