Silence Is Golden (7/17)

When a mob witness surfaces in the river, homicide cops Schmücke and Schneider are caught between a vindictive prosecutor, who sees her suspicions confirmed that the police are in league with the mob, and their boss, who insists it's an accident?

When a female corpse is found in a car sunk in the Saale river, Detectives Schmücke and Schneider identify the dead woman as the wife of an Italian restaurant owner. Although there's no sign of a violent death, the prosecutor is convinced that Nicola Wallner was killed.  Four years ago, she had had to drop her investigations into the Wallners for organized crime on the behest of her supervisors. After agreeing to testify, Nicola allegedly skipped the country. When state politician Siebt dies in an accident, who had agreed to testify about Mrs. Wallner's disappearance, the prosecutor sees her suspicions confirmed. She believes Mrs. Wallner has a source in the police department, putting the two detectives in an awkward position. The two cops have to decide between the prosecutor, who demands they investigate, and their boss, who tells them to cool it?

Two parts experience plus one part female intuition equals three successful investigators.
