Return Of The Beavers (52/268)

In the early years of the 20th century the beaver was on the verge of extinction throughout the world. But numerous protection efforts and resettlement measures have ensured the return of the beaver. Nature's best master-builder is back. With an incredible technique and precision the beaver is able to construct dams in a watercourse - with far-reaching consequences. No other native species is able to actively shape its habitat in this way. Countless rare fauna and flora find a home again in its wake. But the beaver is not welcome everywhere. Its creative urge often conflicts with the interests of agriculture, forestry and fish farming industries. Despite these problems many countries have encouraged the beaver to return. Whether along the banks of the Danube - as in Bavaria, Austria, Hungary and Romania - in distant Canada and even Patagonia: these countries have meanwhile gained their own experiences - some of them very diverse - with the repatriation of the beaver.
