Ontario - Land of the Beautiful Water (32/59)

Ontario - this name originates from the language of the Iroquois and means "beautiful water". The Canadian province has more than a million square kilometers and is traversed with innumerable lakes and rivers. Moreover, it is bounded by the Hudson Bay in the North and by the Five Finger Lakes and the famous Niagara Falls in the South. Ontario's location as well as its mere magnitude allow for an enormous scenic diversity. Swampy lowland areas surround the Hudson Bay and Ice Age moraines and fertile plains can be found in its South. The majority of the overall 12 million inhabitants of Ontario live here, along the Five Finger Lakes and the urban centers of Toronto and Ottawa.   This Canadian province's history is mainly the one of the First Nations - the Iroquois, the Hurons, the Athapasks and the Algonquins. Their civilization then and now as well as the conflicts between the First Nations and the early (European) settlers are the central topics of this film. .
