Of Bears And People (82/268)

Brown bears have actually been extinct in the Bohemian Forest since 1856 - and yet in the winter of 2003 the tracks of a bear were found. Jan Cherney, the forester, heard a pitiful whimpering from beneath a fallen tree. Tracks were found, leading away from the tree. In his search for the animal which left the tracks, Jan Cherney, as an experienced hunter, took a second man with him, the photographer Vaclav Chaloupek. What they found was a sensation: two little bears, alone in the Bohemian Forest - their mother had been killed by the falling tree. Vaclav Chaloupek decided to take the orphaned bears home with him. Indescribable months followed, for the little bears adopted Vaclav as their mother. The film shows the adventures of the "mother bear" with her children in the first year of their life.
