Nordens Ark - The Last Of Their Kind (36/268)

"And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female." The founder of the zoo "Nordens Ark" must have had this bible verse in mind when he chose this symbolic name to protect exotic animals such as snow leopards or Amur tigers, and also domestic Scandinavian animals that are in danger of extinction. Nordens Ark is situated in central Sweden and offers a last refuge to many animal species. Its aim is not only to display threatened species but also to preserve them by means of breeding programmes. In the modern "Ark", however, two of each kind are unfortunately not enough to ensure the survival of the species.
