Noah's Ark On Lake Victoria (143/268)

Many animal species in East Africa will not survive in the wild unless something is done to protect them! This was Prof. Bernhard Grzimek's vision of the future in the early 1960s. His idea was to put the wild animals on a safe island, thus ensuring their preservation. Hence he created a refuge on the remote island of Rubondo in Lake Victoria. Grzimek took rhinoceroses, elephants, giraffes, colobus monkeys and a group of chimpanzees there and left them to their fate. 40 years later a film team went to see which animals had survived on the "Rubondo Ark". They met the biologist Markus Borner, who had been living there for 10 years, and set off with him in search of the survivors of Grzimek's vision.
