Nepal - Gallery of the Gods (36/59)

In Nepal's lowest-lying area, its only railroad leads through an extremely poor region which is still completely off the tourist track.  One of the most unique regions of the country, the Chitwan National Park is just a few driving hours away and famous as one of the last shelters of the rhinoceros.  The film team went on an Elephant safari in order to look for the dangerous pachyderm. The contrast between the dusty capital of Kathmandu, the economic boom town and the mountain region, the gallery of the Gods could not be more striking. Offside the streets or developed paths, the film team accompanied a mule caravan to most remote valleys. The "trucks of the mountains" provide the upland with food and transport even large furniture pieces. As a reward for their efforts, the men get Nepal's best German cake in the mountain village of Namche Bazar. The journey ends at the world's highest place: impressing recordings made in a panorama airplane show the Roof of the World at close-range.
