An old captain U.S.army is fed up with his work after 40 years of service and makes the decision to have himself kidnapped by his daughter, together with load of gold that is actually meant to go to Fort Knox. They want to fulfill their dream and buy theit own farm in New Mexico. As they they try to cross a river in a covered waggon get driven off course by the strong current. They almost drown but Winnetou and Old Shatterhand can save them while the gold stays down in the river. Father and daughter pass themselves off as missionaries who try to make the indians familiar with culture of the "white man". Nscho-Tschi and Winnetou are quite distrustful though. Shatterhand gives away and the daughter begins to teach the indian children how to read and to write. Little Dove is enthusiatstic about it and even Sam learns a little bit about reading. Meanwhile, the father teaches the indians what he learned from the farmers when he was a child. As Colonel Drews shows up father and daughter try to get the gold out of the river. Again Shatterhand and Winnetou must save the two from drowning while at the the same time a part of the gold comes to light.By force of arms Shatterhand is compelled get the rest of the gold out of the river. Father and daughter make off on a raft while Winnetou, Colonel Drews and the army are on their heels. During a fight as Winnetou is in danger of his live he is saved by the father. Nscho Tschi commits herself to father and daughter as they get arrested and sentenced by Colonel Drews. Finally, both are sentenced to three years forced labour as delegates of the U.S.government at the indian tribes.So at last their dream seems to come true: the daughter can teach children and the father can work as a farmer at the indian tribes.
