The murder of a defense lawyer leads Inspectors Ritter and Stark to a 25-year-old child kidnapping case: but what connects the dead man, industrialist-heiress Laura and the kidnapper Müller?

A high-profile lawyer has been murdered. When Ritter and Stark look into the man's past, they come across threatening letters from one client, a man named Müller. The inspectors question him and find themselves looking into a 25-year old case involving the kidnapping of a baby from an industrialist family. At the time, Müller was the prime suspect and was sent to prison. All the more strange then, that he now works as a live-in caretaker for Ina Kilian, a well-known socialite and charity fund-raiser in Berlin and aunt to the baby who was kidnapped all those years ago. Gradually they uncover the master plan of an erstwhile victim who is now the culprit.
