The crew explores the oddities of Namibian rock paintings or takes a cruise from Vietnam to Cambodia. Spectacular scenes of dawn in Mozambique or the desert in Chile are at least as impressive as the adventures of Alaskan bush pilots. This series portrays the most exciting and enticing travel destinations of the world, from the most popular tourist magnets to the most secret hideaways.


"Reise in ferne Welten" entführt die Zuschauer in die Südsee. Gezeigt wird u.a. die wunderschöne Badelandschaft der Fidschi-Inseln und die atemberaubende Vegetation der Cook-Islands. Fidschi liegt mit seinen 350 Inseln im Zentrum des Pazifiks und an der Schnittstelle der beiden pazifischen Kulturkreise Polynesien im Osten und Melanesien im Westen. Mit dem im Westen benachbarten Archipel Vanuatu (83 Inseln) hat Fidschi einiges gemein. Die melanesische Bevölkerung hat dunkle Haut und krause Haare im Unterschied zu den blasseren und glatthaarigen Polynesiern auf den Cook-Inseln. Beide Kulturkreise sind aus der von Asien ausgehenden Besiedelung des Pazifiks entstanden. Sie begann vor etwa 5000 Jahren und drang in mehreren Etappen bis nach Tahiti, die Osterinseln und Hawaii im Nordpazifik vor.
