It has been a long time since the last rains and Colonel Drews officially orders a rationing of the drinking water. Even the waterlevel of the huge Bear lake is sinking rapidly although normally it contains enough water.Winnetou is right by saying that it cannot be only the drought to be blamed. By then, nobody knows that a gang of bandits is mining gold illegaly by flushing it with an immense amount of water.To avoid the usage of Bear Lake as a drinking water reservoir they even poison the water of the whole lake. When Nscho-tschi finds out, she immediately informs Winnetou about the fact. He decides to tap a new source in the mountains to provide the citizens with fresh water.Meanwhile, Hobble Frank claims that he can let it rain by shooting rockets filled with Mother Thick`s chilli. The farmers are quite sceptical towards the big rainmaker. In fact, it starts raining but it is only chilli that spills over everybody.As a result, Hobble Frank and Aunt Droll are chased out of town by the upset farmers. In the meantime, Winnetou and Old Shatterhand have been able to track down the illegal goldminers and a big fight starts. The leader of the gang threatens Winnetou and Shatterhand with blowing them up with dynamite but Nscho-tsci and Sam can manage to help them just in time.Finally, they can set the gang of criminals into custody together.
