Learning To Live With Crocodiles (167/268)

There are many reasons for killing crocodiles: They may be a danger to people, their skin is suitable for making leather goods, hunting them is regarded as an adventure. Hence these reptiles are already virtually extinct. In Australia's largest National Park, the Cockatoo National Park, together with cranes, herons, sea-eagles and pig-nose turtles, there are also many crocodiles. These particular predators, up to eight metres in length, have two rows of bumps along their snout and are omnivores. This species, too, was hunted for a long time and became almost extinct. To be able to keep the armoured giants in their natural habitat the National Park administration is now trying to explain to people the way of life of these dangeours giants and to impress upon them certain rules of behaviour. In his film Felix Heidinger shows that there are many good reasons for preserving these primeval reptiles.
