Jordan - On Submerged Caravan Routes (62/151)

Jordan is a land of contrasts, a modern, dynamic young nation, the Hashemite kingdom and a desert state, proud of its traditions, with cultural landscapes which are thousands of years old. Our journey begins on the trail of the old caravan routes in Wadi Ram, a magnificent red desert. In antiquity this was the site of the legendary incense trail, one of the most important trading routes between the Orient and the Occident. We then travel further to Aqaba on the Red Sea, to Salt, the Osmanic capital until 1918, and to Amman, the bustling young capital city with over three million inhabitants.
