In Tokyo existieren Geschäftigkeit und Geruhsamkeit, enge Gassen und breite Verkehrsschneisen, billige Fischröllchen und Obst für mehr als 300 Euro pro Stück oft nur wenige Meter nebeneinander. Nicht weniger außergewöhnlich wirkt Japan jenseits der Grenzen seiner Hauptstadt. In der ehemaligen Kaiserresidenz Kyoto können eine Vielzahl verschiedener religiöser Stätten des japanischen Buddhismus und Shintoismus erkundet werden.
