Hama - A Rhinoceros, A Stranger In Africa (6/268)

Does a zoo rhinoceros dream of a life in freedom? Rather unlikely if it was born in an enclosure -like Hama, the black hook-lipped rhinoceros in the Frankfurt Zoo. And yet for this rhinoceros a dream of sorts is about to come true, for she is to return to the home of her forefathers - to a national park in southern Africa where hook-lipped rhinos are in demand. A zoo animal that returns to the wild has a lot to learn: coping with a new environment, searching for food on its own and getting on with unknown animals. Will Hama be able to deal with all this? Or are there problems that no-one has even envisaged. For example that the hook-lipped cow could fall for a square-lipped bull - as the news agencies report? Then everything would have been in vain for Hama came to Africa to increase the number of the now rare "southern hook-lipped rhinoceroses" as quickly as possible.
