Grenada ist ein eigener Staat und Mitglied im Britischen Commonwealth. Dichter Regenwald prägt das Landesinnere der Karibikinsel, es gibt Seen, Flüsse, Meer, Sonne, Sandstrände und Palmen. Dabei ist Grenada nicht groß: Von Osten nach Westen sind es 18, von Norden nach Süden 34 Kilometer. Die knapp 100.000 Einwohner sind überwiegend afrikanischer Abstammung. Nicht alle arbeiten in der Tourismusbranche. Auch die Landwirtschaft ist eine Einnahmequelle. Exportiert werden Kakao, Bananen, Zucker, Gewürze und vor allem Muskatnüsse. Die Muskatnussproduktion hat durch den Hurrikan Ivan im Jahr 2004 große Verluste hinnehmen müssen, von denen sie sich bis heute noch nicht wieder erholt hat. Wer nach Grenada kommt, kann den ganzen Tag am Strand in der Sonne schmoren und faulenzen. Aber auch Aktivurlauber wie Wanderer und Radfahrer kommen auf der landschaftlich abwechslungsreichen Insel auf ihre Kosten. Außerdem zählen die Tauchreviere um die Grenadinen zu den schönsten der Welt. Jedes Jahr Anfang August ist Karneval. Er wird fröhlich und farbig gefeiert. Drei Tage und Nächte lang dröhnen die Bässe der Riesenlautsprecher von der Carrenage-Bucht aus weit übers Meer.
