Golden Eagle - The Hunter Of Wimbach Valley (165/268)

The golden eagle is one of the most impressive animals in the Alps. However, it has been hunted by humans to such an extent that it is now extinct in many areas, the remaining species having been forced to retreat to the most remote regions of the mountains. Yet even here, since man has learned to fly, they are not left in peace. In the National Park of Berchtesgaden a project has been launched in an attempt to reconcile the interests of man and beast. Each eagle couple has several eyries, of which only one is used each year to breed the young. In the National Park of Berchtesgaden biologists observe the eagle couples round the clock. In spring, as soon as an eyrie is occupied, the Bundeswehr (Federal Armed Forces) and hobby pilots are informed and then avoid flying in the vicinity of the nests. The golden eagle of Wimbach Valley also lives in the National Park. His brood was to be observed by means of a camera installed above the eyrie. However, the male eagle refused to cooperate - he started an affair with a new partner, far away from the watchful eye of the nest camera.
