Gober - An Orangutan's Story (256/268)

Life is hard for Gober the orangutan. The forest where she lives and which she depends on for her survival is shrinking at an alarming pace and she is losing her eyesight. But with a little help, first from her daughter and then from conservationists, things seem to be looking up.

Fate has not been kind to Gober, a female orangutan living on the island of Sumatra: the expansion of the oil palm plantations is eroding her already miserable Indonesian forest home, making it almost uninhabitable for her. To make matters worse, the conservationists working here searching for a way forward for the animals, discover that Gober is slowly going blind. It is her daughter who is caring for and keeping her alive, even bringing her food. Finally however, Gober is evacuated and is accepted into a rescue center. In a groundbreaking operation, her eyesight is restored - and Gober even gets to experience the joy of motherhood again. The plan to reintroduce her into the wild is taking shape too.
