From the Depths of Time

A body on a construction site leads inspectors Batic and Leitmayr into a morass of corruption and speculation amid the German real-estate boom - and all the way back to the SS and the Third Reich.

Gentrification is rampant in the former low-rent Westend quarter of Munich amid the current real-estate boom. When the bulldozers plow up a lot, they unearth the corpse of wealthy Magda Holzer's missing son Florian. Was it a mugging? Or was Florian victim of the corruption surrounding a multi-million real estate development deal his brother Peter is involved in? Jealousy could be a motive, too, since the brothers were sharing the love of extravagant event manager Liz. Their mother Magda seems to have preferred her son Florian over Peter. Inspectors Batic and Leitmayr dig into a morass of real estate speculation and corruption, and examine the Holzer family's history. When more corpses turn up, they realize the truth may be a lot more complicated than they suspect. The trail leads them to the Croatian exile community and all the way back to WW II.
