Fight for Survival: Protecting the Whales

A brave group of Greenpeace activists heads to the Southern Ocean to risk their lives to prevent Japanese whalers from resuming their deadly trade. They fight for their ideas and for a better world. But the risk is high. Relationships, jobs, health, life itself are all at stake. Documentary grit with thriller pacing. In the Winter of 2007/2008, the two Greenpeace vessels Esperanza and Arctic Sunrise set sail for the South Pole on the trail of the Japanese whaling fleet. Japan has announced it will resume whaling and kill 1000 of the beautiful creatures, in the Southern Ocean Whale Preserve, of all places - allegedly for scientific research, but in truth to fill the plates of sushi restaurants at home. The cruel hunt extends to minke, sperm and fin whales, and, for the first time, even the protected humpback whale. The brave Greenpeace activists' goal: To risk their lives as human shields, protecting the whales from the Japanese harpoons. Over 70 young people from Germany, France and the rest of the world spend eight weeks locked up together in two metal hulls of two times 150 feet in length. They must brave storms, ice bergs, tensions within the crew, doubts, fear of failure and mourning over those whales they fail to save. This is the first time a camera crew has been allowed to accompany a whale saving Greenpeace expedition.

This Program is also known as "Hunting the Hunters" and as a 90 minutes program available as well.
