Eyespot - A Dog Becomes A Legend (141/268)

Millions of TV viewers know him - the wild dog whom the biologists named Eyespot. They witnessed a dog fighting for the survival of his pack. The biologist Greg Rasmussen observed the pack in Zimbabwe at close quarters and unprotected. He roamed around with them, sleeping next to the animals in the bush, and thus he got to know and love Eyespot. Now Eyespot is dead: killed by a farmer's bullet. Rasmussen is convinced that the African wild dogs only have a future if it is possible to refute the myth that they are vicious killers. He knows all about the behaviour of the wild dogs and, above all, he knows the positive side of these successful hunters. They are animals with a highly developed social competence, helping one another even when one of them is injured and unable to hunt -and would normally then be condemned to death.
