Ethiopia: In the Uplands of the Blue Nile (14/17)

Ethiopia is steeped in 3,000 years of history and an ancient Christian culture. These along with its magnificent landscape make any journey to Ethiopia an experience of a lifetime. The route of the film starts in Lalibela and ends in the holy city of Axum.

Ethiopia is a legendary land of Christian high culture steeped in over 3,000 years of history. Particularly in the north of the country, centuries-old churches and palaces bear testimony to Ethiopia's historical importance. The monolithic churches of Lalibela hewn into the mountain rock are among the most famous examples of Orthodox-Ethiopian architecture in the world.
But it is not just this ancient Christian culture that makes a visit to Ethiopia such a worthwhile experience - there is also its magnificent landscape. The table mountains with their sheer drops are indescribably beautiful as is Lake Tana, the largest body of water in Ethiopia and the source of the Blue Nile. The mountains of the Abyssinian Highlands, with peaks towering over 4000 meters high, stretch across Central and Northern Ethiopia, while Addis Ababa is the third highest capital city in the world at more than 2,300 meters above sea level.
