Czech Republic - Blowing Glass - A Tradition In Bohemia's Jizera Mountains (50/151)

The Jizera Mountains along the northern border of the Czech Republic are part of the Sudetes range. In the three-country triangle of Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic, glassblowers have been honing their craft for centuries. Whether it is the glass chandelier of the Scala in Milan, expensive cut-glass whiskey glasses, or costume jewelry for Hollywood stars - the glass treasures of northern Bohemia know no end. The borderlands were once inhabited mainly by German craftsmen, but even when they were driven out after the end of WW II, the glassblowing tradition remained alive in the Jizera Mountains. Even since the end of the Cold War, the beautiful, rugged and scenic region has once again become a magnet for tourists with its multifaceted crafts and traditions.
