India is not only a country but also a subcontinent which lies between the Indus' valleys in the West and those of the Ganges in the East, the world's highest mountains, the Himalaya in the North and the Southern sound which separates India from the insular state of Sri Lanka.
The gastronomic culture in this huge country with a population even larger than China's is manifold - especially when it comes to spices. There's a vast number of different curry recipes. The word "curry" actually derives from a misunderstanding between Europeans and Indians: the British colonists took the Southern Indian word for "dish with sauce", i.e. Kaari, as the name for a mixture of spices and transferred it into the English language. Nowadays, Curry is a globally known spice. This film's journey through the India of the curries starts in Kerala in the Southwest of India, where most of the spices come from - an area about many wars were fought, then follows the curry's traces to Radjasthan, New Delhi and Agra as well as the various Indian cultures and on to the territory of the Rajputs and the Moguls. Many people offer a view on their kitchen, either in modern or in traditional urban residences or where ever they use to cook, on a roof or in front of their hut.
