Common Hamsters, Where Are You? (212/268)

Only few people are aware of the fact that these animals live in Bavaria and only few people have ever seen them: the common hamsters. This is no wonder as they are in danger of extinction. Just some decades ago this was completely different - until the 1970ies, the common hamster was one of the most popular small mammal species and was considered a varmint to be killed by gas or poison or which was dislodged by means of water. In many communities where large numbers of the common hamster used to be found, there are hardly any animals left nowadays.
