Brazil's Colorful Parrots (263/268)

The film follows biologist Lydia Möcklinghoff and includes moving footage from the family life of wild hyacinth macaws and their colorful relatives.

German biologist Lydia Möcklinghoff is actually researching anteaters on the Barranco Alto fazenda, a plantation in the Brazilian South Pantanal. But the largest wetlands on earth are also home to other fascinating creatures, including an extraordinary variety of bird life. The large parrots with their incredibly colorful plumage are fascinating. The cobalt blue hyacinth macaw with yellow encircled eyes, the green-winged macaw ablaze with hues of red, blue and green and the blue-and-gold macaw with its gold chest and blue wings - these are the stars of the bird population on the Barranco Alto plantation. Though they have died out elsewhere, thanks to the efforts of biologists and farmers throughout the Pantanal, approximately 5000 specimens of these bright blue parrots currently make their home in this region.
