Bloody Streets (13/17)

While Chief Inspector Schmücke is still in bed with gunshot wounds, Herbert Schneider and Nora Lindner are already on the next case. A young woman was killed by a hit-and-run driver. At first it looks like a crime of passion, but then a newspaper article gives the case a different spin. A sleazy reporter named Walter Klaue claims the woman had to die because she was going to spill the beans on a corruption case involving local politicians and businessmen. Klaue's claims seem to be corroborated when his mobile home explodes and he barely escapes alive. He's seriously injured and taken to the same hospital where Schmücke is convalescing. Glad to beat the hospital monotony with a little undercover work, the inspector has the muckraker moved to his room without revealing his identity. The clues in the getaway vehicle that has been found by now definitely point to the victim's husband, who subsequently kills himself. Is that a confession of guilt? Schmücke takes advantage of his hospital stay to win the scummy reporter's confidence. But can he really prove his claims...?

Two parts experience plus one part female intuition equals three successful investigators.
