Katja, the senior doctor of the Berlin University eye clinic, is found murdered. The trail leads Inspectors Ritter and Stark to a company that has developed a revolutionary retinal chip under the name of Project Phydra, which was implanted in a blind patient successfully for the first time, just shortly after Katja was killed. The eye surgeon Mareike, who performed the ground-breaking operation, soon becomes a suspect: It was a chance of a lifetime for her - but would she really kill for the chance to make medical history? The homicide cops find out the victim was having an affair with Mareike's fiancé Tim, head of the Phydra project, and Tim becomes a suspect as well. Did Katja threaten to reveal their tryst to his bride-to-be? He probably would have lost his job, since the firm belongs to Mareike's dad. The detectives set about unravelling a web of cutting-edge science and big-money business, leading them to a wholly unsuspected solution...
