Winnetou, Shatterhand and Sam attend a meeting of the Pow-Wow tribe council. Winnetou even takes part in the indian tradtional competition of Waktusha-ho.Meanwhile, the other members of Winnetous tribe who did not join them to the Pow- Wows,suddenly fall seriously ill. As medicine man Running Deer is running out of special medicinal herbs Nscho-tschi decides to get them without waiting for Winnetou?s return.Despite of the approaching winter she must ride high up to the mountains to another indian village for these special herbs.At the same time Hobble Frank and Aunt Droll go duck hunting to prepare a banquet for Shatterhands return. Suddenly they meet a runaway from the circus, Jumbo, an elephant, and Hobble Frank becomes an enthusiastic pal of the animal. As winnetou returns to his tribe a strong blizzard rages in the mountains.He decides to go out and search for Nscho-tschi but gets buried alive by an alalanche. The storm calms down Nscho-tschi finds her brother who suffers seriously from undercooling. She brings him to a lonely hut.As Winnetou slowly recovers Jumbo turns out to be very helpful, not only for the railroad company.
