Australia's Cutest Marsupial (91/268)

The wombat is a familiar creature in Australia. For children it plays the same role as the European teddy bear. In many areas it is an endangered species, and so conservationists rear every wombat they find, for wombat mothers are often killed in traffic accidents. The young ones are usually unharmed. They are protected by their mother's pouch. Polly is a female wombat who has been reared by the Mattingly family. Normally the baby wombats are looked after for two years and then set free by their carers. Yet every time Polly was released she returned to her family, and she now lives with them as a family member. Polly loves chocolate biscuits more than anything else, and nothing can deter her from her daily ration! Polly is only one representative of Australia's cutest marsupials - but a very special one. This film shows the life of an adopted wombat as well as the life of wombats in the wild.
