Almond - Eye Monkeys - Vietnam's Endangered Species (22/268)

Cool and handsome, Richard peers out into the jungles of Cuc Phuong National Park in Northern Vietnam. Even if he seems almost human, he's a monkey - a douc. Their colored fur, humanlike expression and movements make doucs a fascinating subspecies of primates. But few humans ever get to see one, for they are threatened by poachers and in danger of extinction in their jungle habitat. So when animal preservationists get the news that doucs were unexpectedly sighted in Southern Vietnam, they start packing and go after them right away. While they usually stay hidden in the "green hell," the first beach tourists have reported sightings in the south. Is it just a false alarm, or are the immensely shy animals actually seeking out the presence of humans?
