A New Life (23/49)

Inspector Batic goes undercover to crack a secretive ring of door-to-door con artists collecting donations to save baby seals when one of their people turns up dead.

Isabella and her young assistant Sandra run a ring of door-to-door panhandlers collecting donations to save baby seals in Canada from being killed. The profit margin is high, so is the pressure. The girls want to make a quick buck and solve their money problems for good. When Inspectors Franz Leitmayr and Ivo Batic find a male corpse in a burnt-out car in the woods outside Munich, the trail leads to the panhandling ring. But they're not talking to outsiders, so Batic decides to go undercover and take a job door-to-door with them, even if it's not quite legal. He vanishes from sight, not even his partner Franz knows how to reach him. The animal rescue crew keeps close tabs on their people to make sure no one strays. And for good reason, too. The two unusual ring leaders split the take between them. Or so they think?
