A Fine Outlook

The teacher Anna Wiegland moves from the bustle of a big city to the idyll of country life when she accepts a post as head teacher of a primary school in a tranquil village. There she is closer to her daughter Caroline who is studying in Freiburg. As a dedicated teacher, she tries to reform the outmoded curriculum and teaching methods in her new school and meets with serious opposition. Anna relaxes with her cat E.T. in the garden of her lovely old house. Until one day a huge hound belonging to Count Alexander von Schönberg climbs over the fence and E.T. flees in fear of his life up the nearest tree. At this Anna pulls out her claws and shows the Count that she is not impressed by charm and an aristocratic title. When she then discovers that the Count's daughter has a learning disability that was hushed up for years, she really makes an enemy of him. Together other worried parents, who are disturbed by Anna's modern teaching methods, the Count starts collecting signatures for a petition. Anna clings stubbornly to her convictions, and with her obstinacy she even endangers the further existence of the school...
