A Crude Plan (22/27)

Nscho-Tschi meets the chemistry ingenieur Efram Blackwell from Pennesylvania in the middle of the prairie. After a short conversation she discovers what this big guy is looking for. He seems to have his heart in the right place and Nscho-Tschi shows him a tar pit filled with the "burning water". Overjoyed Blackwell makes his way into town to find workers to build an oil pump. But since he has no money everybody waves him off. Only the stinker Santer smells business and for the half of all profits he intodruces Blackwell to the boss of the railway company, Hollingworth. They make the deal and Shatterhand helps as a railroad engineer to build the first oil pump of the Wild West. Everything seems to be going well, even Hobble-Frank is able to offer his worn down water tank as the world's first oil tank. Winnetou sees the entire hurly-burly as nonsense and laughs over the white man's silly bustle. Nobody had taken the powermad chief Mattho-Sih into account. He snatches a filledoil tank and lights a giant fire in town in order to make the white man finally leave the area. It's the burning hell and the fire is moving towards the oil pump. Winnetou, Shatterhand and Sam along with Blackwll and Nscho-Tschi are surrounded by the flames. But with a couple of dynamite sticks the fire is finally put out. And as Hobble-Frank without further ado transforms his oil tank into a fire engine Mother Thick announces him to the local chief of the fire engine.
