Willi certainly doesn't lead a quiet life: in spring, when heavy rainfall fills the puddles and floods the hollows, a race against time begins for the green toad. The females only lay their bands of spawn in ponds which dry up again after a few weeks. By the time the puddles disappear, the tadpoles must have developed into little green toads - otherwise they will wither and die with the last of the water. For one year Willi was observed on his highly dangerous expeditions, in his search for a mate and on his hunting forays.
