Mozart himself was firmly convinced that the best place in the world for a musician was Vienna. This may still be true today. You notice this in so many small things. For example, there is a special telephone number which you can call to hear the concert pitch A. And the enthusiasm for music displayed by the Viennese people is unparalleled.

They queue for days on end to buy standing-only tickets for the State Opera, which cost the same price as a tram ticket. The audience follows the music, is moved by it and shows amazing musical discernment.

It is also no coincidence that people here still like to hear the Vienna Boys' Choir, the Viennese Waltz and folksongs - for example, when drinking the season's new wime. Music belongs to Vienna - as Beethoven, Haydn, Gluck, Schubert. Music has a great tradition here. And Vienna lives and breathes this tradition...

Schon Mozart war der festen Meinung: der beste Ort der Welt für einen Musiker ist Wien. Das gilt vielleicht bis heute. Man merkt es an vielen Kleinigkeiten. So gibt es beispielsweise eine eigene Telefonnummer, unter welcher man den Kammerton A hören kann. Auch die Musikbegeisterung der Wiener sucht ihresgleichen.

Tagelang stehen sie für die Stehplatzkarten der Staatsoper an, die zum Preis eines Straßenbahnfahrscheines erhältlich sind. Das Publikum geht mit der Musik mit und zeigt eine erstaunliche musikalische Urteilskraft.

Auch kommt es nicht von ungefähr, daß man hier die Wiener Sängerknaben, den Wiener Walzer und das Volkslied, zum Beispiel beim Heurigen, immer noch gerne hört. Musik gehört zu Wien wie Beethoven, Haydn, Gluck oder Schubert. Musik hat hier einfach Tradition. Und Tradition ist gerade von Wien nicht wegzudenken...
