Keeping elephants in the appropriate way is also a problem of space. For experts, such as the elephant researcher Professor Fred Kurt, the best home for elephants in Europe is to be found not in a zoo but in a circus - the Circus Knie in Zurich. In a large open-air reserve the herd can roam in freedom and bathe in the river. Reason enough to take a closer look at these elephants, not least to see whether the presentation of elephants in a circus is at all acceptable nowadays with regard to the protection of animals.
