The sly miller's son and the sharp-witted Princess are meant for each other. Together, the two struggle against all odds to see their love fulfilled.   Even though he's only a poor commoner, Hans the miller's son receives the prophesy at birth that he will wed the king's daughter one day. But when the cruel and rapacious king hears of the prediction, he resolves to do everything in his power to keep it from coming true, instead seeking to marry his daughter to dim-witted Prince Willibald. The king tells the miller's son he can only win the hand of the princess if he brings him the devil's three gold hairs. Hans takes on the quest, however, and wins over the devil's grandmother deep in the nether reaches of hell for his cause. Next he faces the decisive duel with the Lord of Darkness...
